Dominique's dream
After working as a volunteer with elephants for a while, Dominique had set her heart on moving to Thailand to work as a real mahout. She moved to Thailand were she met her husband Suphot (Phot). They both worked as mahouts for a couple of years together. Her dream was to have an elephant refuge. A place were the elephants don't have to work any more and where they will have a happy life. In November 2005 their dream came true. They found a great piece of land close to the jungle near Kanchanaburi and started Elephants & Friends. Their first rescue was Boonmi.
Unfortunately Dominique's dream came to an abrupt end when she passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on March 15, 2006, at the tender age of 27. Phot and Areepri, their 1 1/2 year old daughter, are left behind.
